Some Stuff I Think You Might Like: February 2023
"The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth." - H. L. Menken (1880–1956)
As regular readers of Midnight at the Matinee are perhaps aware, over the final few months of 2022, real life rather compelled me to take a temporary (and very reluctant) hiatus from writing. Mercifully, this period seems to have passed (or at least, abated sufficiently to again permit a steady stream of scribbles) and so it seems as good a time as any to relaunch my Some Stuff I Think You Might Like series, albeit with a slightly rejiggered format and schedule. Unlike the weekly round-ups of old, I will now be sending you much more comprehensive collections of the best long-form content and in-depth analysis I stumble across each month, allowing me to concentrate on the kind of work you come here for while also providing that big ol’ brainbox of yours with plenty of sustenance in between times.
And so, to kick things back into gear, here are some of the most informative articles and illuminating interviews that probably didn’t make your newsfeed in February:
